Going to the Hospital

by htollefson on June 8, 2012

It was my sincere intention to get more done for the website over the last couple weeks, however the 3 year old underwent surgery for his tonsils and adenoids, which required more of my attention than I originally had intended.  He did great in surgery though.  In addition to visiting the hospital and surgery location prior to his procedure, I also purchased Going to the Hospital and the Going to the Hospital sticker book for him.

I really feel like the books helped him to get a grasp of what was coming before he went.  The First Experiences line of books is full of great titles to prepare your child for upcoming experiences.  There is even a New baby one, which I have just ordered.  We are 1 week, 5 days on the countdown for that event!

The other titles in the series are:

Usborne Books Wooly Jumpers
Woolly Jumpers
Kane Miller
Author: Hilton, Nette
• Ages: 8-12
• Size of book: 5 x 7 3/4 inches
• Pages: 96
Mike and Jake’s dad has always wanted to live in the country. Not Mike and Jake.
There’s nothing to do in the country, and Mike and Jake do it with lots of energy, until all of a sudden there are sheep and snakes and lizards and chickens and a sheepdog who doesn’t know what a sheep is …
A hilarious story about city kids who are out of their comfort zone learning to live with farm animals who know what’s what, told from both Mike’s point of view, and the animals’ with whom he tangles.

Summer Vacation

by htollefson on May 19, 2012

Summer Vacation is here!!  My boys were at daycare this week, so that I could get some things done around the house primarily focused on getting ready for baby.  The weekend is here now, but starting Monday, the boys are all MINE!  I have to learn how to be full-time mommy again, and of course I have to do it super-mom style.  My goal is to get in as much quality time in as possible before baby comes.  We will do learning activities, visit the pool (that is if my swimsuit is still covering the belly), go to the park, etc.  The big challenge here will be keeping the 6 year old OFF the computer, and OFF Netflix as much as possible.  So I got to thinking, I’m an Usborne books and activities consultant, and I’m always talking to people about these great activities.  Wouldn’t it be great to have some new and fun things around to entice my kids this summer?  I began browsing through the Usborne catalog, and well, there were so many great items that I couldn’t just limit my choices to what I would buy for my own boys, so I pulled out the best activities I could find for boys AND girls of varying ages, and I put them into a chart.  If you are like me, and looking for ways to keep your kids away from the TV and computer as much as possible, check out the lists and see what your kids may enjoy!
